Susan Sparks

CPDT-ka

Susan has spent the last twenty-six years teaching struggling teen readers, and has professionally trained dogs since 2010. Born in New Delhi, India to American parents, Susan’s first dog was a black street puppy her dad rescued from insensitive village boys on his way home from work. From very early on, Susan learned empathy for animals and appreciation for their intelligence, sensitivity and resiliency. Susan began the quest to train dogs responsibly and professionally in 2008 in the memory of her brother Tim.  She also earned Flowing Wells Teacher of the Year.

Earning college degrees and endorsements from University of Arizona, Northern Arizona University and Walden University, Susan specializes in working with fearful, reactive dogs, and assists therapy dog teams to get credentialed. One of her favorite activities is dining at local restaurants with great friends and fine dogs. She and her Italian Greyhound Zeke compete locally in agility, and she is working toward becoming a credentialed Tricks instructor using positive reinforcement methods. Susan currently shares her home with five sighthounds.
